Drakensberg Gardens Golf & Spa Resort Southern Drakensberg
Poised on a scenic 860 hectare World Heritage site, this resort is a one-of-a-kind retreat for guests to reconnect, relax and unwind. One can venture into the great outdoors – hiking, horse riding, canoeing or trout fishing – play a round on the Southern Drakensberg’s only 18 hole golf course or simply relax beside the swimming pools.
Due to the growth and popularity of mountain biking, the Drakensberg Gardens has developed and custom built a single track at the resort. The route is 12km and traverses the resort’s picturesque dam, golf course and the lush pine forest; and is suitable for all riders of all levels. Bikes are also available from the Hotel reception.
There is something for everyone to enjoy at a special retreat which is just two and a half hours drive from Durban.
The Drakensberg Gardens Golf & Spa Resort is the ideal venue for Conferences. Two state-of-the-art conference / function venues that seat up to 200 guests easily accommodate day conferences, seminars, presentations, cocktail parties, gala dinners, special occasions, functions and Weddings. With its array of activities and facilities, the resort is perfect for teambuilding.
The Three-Star rated Drakensberg Gardens Golf & Spa Resort offers spacious and comfortable accommodation with standard, superior and deluxe rooms. All have private bathrooms, television, telephones, tea and coffee making facilities and heaters. The deluxe rooms also include under floor heating for those cold winter days.
Guests also have the option of four, five and six sleeper fully equipped self-catering units which are ideal for family getaways. Parents, who need a break from cooking and child care, can request a babysitter at reception and enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants.

News and Improvements
We are always improving our facilities and with that we just completed a brand new BMX track for all of our visitors who are adventure enthusiasts. We also have BMX bikes available for hire so there is no need to bring your own.
Some Additional Improvements Include:
- Guests will notice the improved appearance of the course with new bridges, cart paths, the level of the tee-boxes, as well as the purchase of additional golf carts.
- Eagles Nests rooms are newly refurbished. Our visitors will enjoy the superior accomodation and lovely family rooms.
Planned Improvements Include:
- Additional Kiosk and Picnic sites next to the river.
- Two new driving ranges will be available to our golfing visitors.
- A new Gazebo will be added next to the river for stunning weddings.

Drakensberg Gardens Golf Club
For the golfing enthusiast, the Resort prides itself in the renowned Drakensberg Gardens Golf Club, the only 18-hole golf course in the Southern Berg (NGU affiliated). Known to be challenging but fair, the course is ideal for all golfers from seasoned professionals to the first time player.
Drakensberg Gardens Golf Club boasts the most spectacular views of the Rhino Horn Peak and Lake Kwanyoni boating and trout fishing dam with a beautiful clubhouse, unspoilt fairways and arresting greens that are kept in perfect playing condition throughout the year. The Club’s membership has been increasing every year and now has over 1000 members.

Course Details
This 18 Hole Par 72 Golf Course plays 5559m (Club) and 5738m (Championship). The front 9 of the course offers 1x Par3, 7x Par4 and 1x Par5 with a total distance of 2856m (Club) and 2927m (Championship). The back 9 of the course offers 3x Par3, 3x Par4, and 3x Par5 with a total distance of 2703m (Club) and 2811m (Championship).
Health Spa and Wellness Centre
The popular Wellness Centre consists of a sauna and plunge pool, two Jacuzzis, two steam rooms, a 24 jet hydrotherapy bath (heated) as well as a fully equipped gym with cardiovascular circuit, weight training and juice bar. The Wellness Centre also includes Cellu-Beauty Wellness Retreat, which offers 5 treatment rooms (booking is essential).

- Take the N3 past Pietermaritzburg.
- Just before Howick take the off ramp to the left marked “Underberg/Bulwer R617.
- Follow the signs to Bulwer on the R617 all the way to Underberg.
- Go through the town of Underberg, you will pass the Country Club on your right.
- ± 4km outside Underberg you will see a large signboard indicating a “right turn” to Drakensberg Gardens Resort.
- Follow the 29km tarred road until you will arrive at the Hotel.
- The journey takes approximately 3 hours.
Directions from Johannesburg
