After three years of hard work and dedication, the Drakensberg Staff Choir have had their dream come true - their CD is now available!! (hence the name of the CD - "Iphupho Lethu - Our Dream") All members of the choir work on the Resort, in many different departments. We have noted all the positions and the length of employment on the CD.

Drakensberg Gardens Staff Choir continue to raise funds for the Bergview Primary school
The Drakensberg Staff Choir continue to perform for hotel guests in an effort to raise funds for the Bergview Primary school. Bergview is situated outside the Resort and has 49 learners from Grade R (new) to Grade 7. Drak Gardens continue to support Nqhobile Dlamini who graduated from Dingeka High School last year. The school received a new stove from the Fairways Resort, as well as winter beanies, which were purchased from funds raised by the staff. The Kuhle Craft project continues to be a success, items are on sale at the Superette, and are popular novelties for both local and international guests. The crafters quality has improved tremendously, which is contributing largely to the support of this worthy project.
The Drakensberg Gardens Staff Choir CD sales have made a generous donation to their charity of choice, which is Clouds of Hope, in Underberg. This is an AIDS orphanage providing housing and support for children from toddlers to Grade 12 pupils. The choir sang of Clouds of Hope and the staff and children were thrilled. They received a copy of the choir CD and hope to learn some of the songs and return the performance to them soon.
The SA Disabled Golf Regional Days continue to provide a great platform for the disabled golfers to get out and play 18 holes, and the supporters who join these days greatly assist in raising funds for the association. Gooderson Leisure made a generous donation of R6 000 from funds raised during the Annual Charity tournament.

Tropicana Hotel is proud of the ongoing support they have gained from responsible Green partners and their surrounding community with regards to their dedicated recycling project. The partners on board include the Don’t Waste Services, who has ensured that recycling efforts are executed in accordance to popular categories such as plastic, paper and other non-degradable items, whilst Chelsea School is also furiously involved with the recycling programmes. Over the last few months, the School have assisted the Hotel with the recycling of waste paper by distributing it to relevant parties and have to date collected over three and a half tons of waste paper.
All the proceeds generated from this programme are donated to various worthy charities across Durban.
All the staff and management of the Tropicana look forward to the ongoing support of their Green partners in the future to help enforce positive change and make a real difference to the environment.
Annual Charity Tournament
We had a fantastic turn out this year. Last year we only had 44 players and of those, only 8 ladies. This year we had a field of 69 players and 24 ladies!! This was made up of first time players and "old regulars" like Murray Moll playing his 46th time! This made for a great tournament, and we had Michael Bredenkamp and Leon Mariz representing SA Disabled Golf - both played and were very impressed with what they saw. [read more]
First day was Individual Stableford and second day Medal Stableford, allowing the higher handicaps a a chance!
The FNB sponsored shirts looked superb and the course was in best condition ever!
Overall winner was Graham Rudolph, and it was wonderful to have last year's champion (Selva Govender) playing as well, here to hand over the trophy!
The prize giving MOVIE MAGIC theme dinner was a huge hit and we were extremely grateful to all the sponsors as we had so many prizes and paid out to 10th place overall!
Most importantly, we managed to raise just over R19 000 which will go our beneficiaries of the event - SA Disabled Golf and Bergview Primary School project.
